If you were thinking to switch, you should. The result is indeed much better and the software is by far better. The spyder 3 has a worse reputation than the 4, but I have worked with only an id3 pro. after our last discussion about display calibration, I was convinced that I have to ditch the Spyder software and change to displa圜AL. I can't really tell you Ruben, but is this the Spyder4 we're talking about? Is that the only instrument you use for calibration? If you are going to be messing with the thing constantly you might consider the PRO. On the cheap end the Colormunki display is absolutely the way to go if you have just a few calibrations you need to make (even if it's slow, using the x-rite software a calibration should only take 20-30 min maximum). Obviously the spyder4 doesn't have this issue. I have seen video of spyder 2s taking 8 hours for this kind of calibration.

The id3 pro is a lot faster than I was expecting and most of the "thick" LUT profiles I create using large testcharts (1000+ patches) still only take at most an hour. One other note of import is that the colormunki is supposed to take measurements more slowly, I haven't worked with one I don't know if that's true.

The difference between the ID3 and the ID3PRO is that the X-rite software is supposed to be factory calibrated to the ID3 PRO using a measurement correction, which I'm trying to figure out how to export (it should be easy). There is no reason to spend money on the extras the id3 probe packages bring. Thus the lineup consisted of the Datacolor Spyder 4 Express, the Datacolor Spyder 4 Elite, the X-Rite ColorMunki Display, and the X-Rite I1 Display Pro. So if you are going to use the free software out there that is good: ArgyllCMS and DispcalGUI together! I came across this article of yours this morning whilst looking for advice on calibrating my new Dell 7566 Laptop. The x-rite software is very user friendly but not particularly powerful, the colormunki display doesn't work with the iProfiler program but is the same probe as the id3/id3 pro, which both work with the software. COLORMUNKI DISPLAY, I1 Display, I1 Display PRO at 1:57 13753 Mark Twain Participant Offline Hi, The Spyder 3 Pro gives lower contrast ratio results when compared to a ColorMunki Display. Not to be confused with the i1 pro 2 spectrophotometer (~$1000) or any other of the 4-5 colormunki products. These are all variants of the i1 display pro colorimeter. The X-Rite ColorMunki Display device introduced in mid-2011 is not. The scoop on the colormunki display vs id3/id3 pro is the following: The NEC SpectraSensor Pro is based on the X-Rite iOneDisplay Pro sensor and is supported.
